The best way to describe Drift is to start with what it isn’t; Drift isn’t racing.
A test of driver skill, and ability to control their car; imagine rally without the dirt. Drifting can take place on a tight and winding or fast and flowing asphalt track - points are awarded for style, smoke, and amongst other things, the amount of time the car spends sideways down the track.
One thing you don’t get points for in Drift is speed, by awarding points in this way the drivers are pitched on a level playing field, testing their skill rather than the size of their wallet.
Taking it to the next level, a Drift battle, or contest, sees two contestants on the track at the same time competing in an almost follow the leader fashion. The first driver sets the bar, and it’s up to the following driver to match, or better the lead driver.
